Gift of Love

It is pure wonder and joy for a young child who catches his first glimpse of Christmas ---blinking lights all shiny and bright, presents to open, not to mention the cookies and candy he/she can taste.
What memories parents hold dear of the snapshots of their children caught in the act of trying to guess what's in the wrapped boxes under the tree. They will pick them up and shake them trying to guess what is in the box by the sound of the rattle they hear; or they will be caught peeping in bags parents have hidden away in closets and under beds...All these childhood acts are a part of being a child at Christmas.
Christmas cookies never taste as good as the ones fresh out of the oven taken from the baking sheet when mom is not looking...Priceless memories! All of them.

As adults we somehow lose the wonder of a child at Christmas. WE lose the purity of a childlike faith in Jesus Christ. If we could only bury that "Child faith" so deep it would come to life in worship and adoration of Christ every day and not only at Christmastime. It is by God's grace we are His child, both now and forever.

Why can't we as adults come to the Christ of Christmas? No, not to the manger, but to the Cross and to the empty tomb of our Lord and risen Savior? Come as a child; eager to learn, eager to laugh, eager to live, eager to love, and eager to obey. You see, He is the Master Teacher, the Author of Joy, and the Giver of life.
Unlike any other baby,  the one born that night in Bethlehem was unique in all of history. Human parents did not create Him. He came into the world by a heavenly existence ---The eternal, all-powerful and all-knowing Creator sent His Son to earth in the flesh.

Why would Jesus do such a thing? Why would He come as a baby instead of appearing in power and majesty? Why make himself a true man and live among us, to work as a common laborer, a carpenter; when he could have entered the world and lived surrounded by riches?  He did it for all the world. He came as the most precious "Gift of Love." If the world was to have joy, He must walk the footsteps of a mortal man!

And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round them; and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord, And this shall be a sigh unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God, and saying...Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men...Luke 2 : 9-14 (KJV)

God did not send His Son to save a few people. He came for all people. Not just the rich, but the poor as well. Not the white person, but those of all skin colors... You see, there is no color boundaries in a heart filled with the love of God...There is a well-known song that has been sung by children for many years..."Jesus loves the little children, All the children of the world. Red, yellow, black, and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world." The way I see it, God created us all equal!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends. It is my prayer that we will all get back to the real meaning of what Christmas stands for...

God Bless,
Mary Frances King
