Spring...The Renewal of Life
Spring - the Renewal of Life
I am so ready for spring! Ready to
be rid of ice and snow, cold biting winds, short days and long, dark nights. I
am ready to see the hills come alive with tender buds and the valleys turn
green again. I want to see the early bloom of crocus and daffodils and the
blossoms on the dogwood and red bud trees; to smell the fragrance of the apple,
peach, and plum blossoms. Only God can create such a heavenly scent.
It will be nice to hear the song of
the peepers as their chirps blend in perfect harmony; to listen at the joy they
seem to have while they work at building their new homes. I often think of that
happy little tune, “Whistle While You Work,” when I hear them gaily
twittering. They supply us with music from early morning into the late
evening’s hours. There is nothing more beautiful than watching a gabble of
geese flying in V formation on their way home again. Those little critters have
the right idea; migration is the answer to all beast and human who wish to
choose their favorite climate. They live the “Follow your dream’ life.
There is something about spring that
makes a person come alive, the sounds are more intense, the colors more vivid,
and the warm sunshine brings healing to the body and spirit.
On a warm windless day, when I am
working in my garden, I can hear a church bell in Danville when it rings at the
noon hour. Ever so faintly, it chimes. It reminds me of Sunday mornings in the
past when every Church from miles around rang the bells calling everyone to get
ready and come to God’s House. I miss the bells and I wish the day would come
when Churches once again rang them on Sunday morning. However, I suppose that
is only a dream because many of the churches have done away with the church
bell. The older churches that still have one have neglected them for years and
the newer buildings didn’t think it was necessary to install one. They are
considered outdated.
Spring warmth feels like an arm of
friendship wrapped around my shoulders, like a face of affection pressed to
mine. All from my “more than friend,” He is my Father, and I can always feel
the touch of His handclasp tightly holding mine.
So, I am ready for spring and
the renewal of life that comes with it, bringing a new season of beauty to my
countryside… and all these gifts are treasured love notes from God.
Mary Frances King
God still reigns over all that He created. Right
before our very eyes and under our nose He walks and talks with us. We cannot
wait until we get to heaven to experience His love, and to do His will. We have
to start right here on earth. He has given us the tools to do that. Scripture,
prayer, communities of faithful believers, acts of love, peace, and mercy. All
these pull together to show us a taste of faith and grace. All are guidelines
from our Heavenly Father
